St Patrick’s Day

It was wonderful to be able to celebrate the feast day of our Patron Saint, St Patrick, here at St Patrick’s Parish School today as we were so sad when it was cancelled last year due to COVID.

Our school community celebrated Mass in honour of St Patrick. We asked God to help us to have total faith and trust in God as Patrick did. We also asked for the courage to spread God’s message of love to the people around us just as Patrick did for the people of Ireland.

Lots of fun was had afterwards! The children enjoyed potato relays, sack races, water sponge throwing, maze activities, gumboot throwing, egg and spoon races and the much loved parachute! We enjoyed lunch time together, as a whole school,on the grass. Thank you to our great staff for making our feast day so special for the children.

Fourth Sunday of Lent

The second reading at Mass last Sunday is from the letter of St Paul to the Ephesians.

‘Jesus said, “God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son that everyone who believes may have eternal life. People who do evil things hate the light because they do not want their evil deeds to be shown But those who do good come to the light so that the light may show that what they did was in obedience to God.” ‘

Family Prayer

Lord God,

You loved us so much that

you sent your only Son, Jesus.

May we walk in his light.

Amen

Fourth Week of Lent      (school week beginning 15th March)

Arsad, an Indonesian farmer, had no toilet in his house, so always had to walk into the forest to the open defecation area. His family was often sick and open defecation caused many neighbourhood disputes. With the support of Caritas Australia and its partner agency, Laz Harfa, Arsad took part in hygiene, sanitation and financial management training. He then funded the building of a toilet in his house and helped other community members to save money to construct their own toilet.

Now, Arsad’s family is healthier, their community no longer practices open defecation and is more harmonious. Arsad inspired his community to ‘Be More.’

Around 17 percent of Indonesia’s rural population, or 45 million people, practice open defecation – going to the toilet outdoors in fields, forests and other open spaces. (World Bank)
