Principal’s Message

Dear Parents & Caregivers

Last week we were excited to learn that a new Bishop has been appointed to our Diocese. This has been a long process with Bishop Mark Edwards being appointed to the position. Bishop Edwards, who will turn 61 next month, was born in Indonesia and grew up in Adelaide, Darwin and Melbourne’s southeast, attending St Leonard’s Primary School and Mazenod College. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1986 and has held leadership positions within the Australian Province of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate. He was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Melbourne on November 7, 2014 and ordained Bishop the following month. Bishop Edwards’ priestly ministry has largely centred on secondary school and seminary education, including serving as rector of Iona College in Brisbane and as aspirants’ master and novice master at St Mary’s Seminary in Mulgrave. In addition to his priestly formation and theological training, Bishop Edwards completed a science degree at Monash University, where he also obtained a doctorate in philosophy.

Presently we are finalising the change of format to our mid year reports. Given the COVID-19 pandemic we have received advice from Catholic Schools NSW that the Minister for Education, Dan Tehan has signed a determination under section 59(5)of the Australian Education Act 2013 which will allow for some reporting flexibility to parents in 2020. In the coming days I am hoping to send out exact details of Semester 1 reporting.

Please be reminded that if your child shows any signs of being unwell, particularly with cold/flu-like symptoms, please do not send them to school. I make particular note of this not because I am suggesting they are likely to have COVID-19, rather if these germs pass on to any of our staff, and they present with cold/flu like symptoms, they are required under regulations to have a COVID-19 test, and not return to work until they receive their results. Potentially this could limit the number of staff we have available.

I have been very busy with Kinder enrolment interviews for 2021. This Friday, 5th June is the final date and enrolments will be closed after this. If you have a child to enrol for next year you must get your form in by this Friday please.

Again I thank you for the patience and understanding that you have shown with the changes to drop off and pick up. Whilst the arrangement is not ideal we need to adhere to COVID-19 regulations particularly in the area of social distancing.

Kind regards,

Liz
