Principal’s Message

Dear Parents, Students and Friends, it is wonderful to back after an extended break in Europe and Hawaii. Feeling very rested and looking forward to the rest of the year.

Confirmation

I had the privilege of attending the Confirmation Reflection Day on Monday and I must say that we should all be very proud of the way that the young people in our school responded. I look forward to the ceremony on Saturday Night. The candidates have been asked to meet in the PD Health Room by 5.30pm.  Mr Thompson will be taking photos of each candidate.

The service commences at 6.00pm in the Church and everyone is invited to join us and celebrate this special Sacrament for our Year 6 students.

Fiver for a Farmer

Tomorrow we join with the rest of the schools in the Albury Deanery to raise money for our farming communities. Whilst it is called a ‘fiver for a farmer” any donation is welcome and 100% of the funds are used to assist as there is zero admin money taken out.   Staff and students are invited to dress in ‘farming clothes.’  Band members will also be busking at Recess and Lunch around the school.

Prime Minister’s Visit

Mr Scott Morrison, Prime Minister will be visiting Albury tomorrow and we have been invited to busk in AMP Lane from 1.30am when he is due to visit. Members of our school band have been selected to attend. If you are around during this time you may care to call in.

Well done and you can view lots of photos on our galleries page.  Thank you to Mr. Thompson for the fantastic pictures and to our Year 2 parents for the delicious morning tea.

Tournament of the Minds.

Congratulations the Year 5 & 6 students who travelled to Wagga with Mrs Good and their families to represent the school at the Riverina Championships.

They won their section on the day and now progress to the State Final in Sydney on Sunday, 9th September. We wish them every success.

Tournament of Minds is a problem solving programme for teams of students from both primary and secondary years. The Tournament’s aim is to enhance the potential of our youth by developing diverse skills, enterprise, time management, and the discipline to work collaboratively within a challenging and competitive environment.

They are required to solve demanding, open-ended challenges. One of the challenges they faced was to come up with a playlist of four songs or song types for an unspecified group. The aim to see if they could think outside of the square. Our kids came up with  a playlist for a whale.

NAPLAN

We have not received official word on the release date for 2018 NAPLAN Results. As soon as we have this we will communicate it to you.

SCHOOL FEES

These are now due. Please ensure they are finalised by the end of term. If paying by instalments please ensure the amount paying covers the excursion/activity student fee.

CYBER SAFETY

I not sure how many of you saw the news report on the 12 year girl who was tricked on Social Media into sharing images of herself. It raised alarm bells for me.

Glenn McMahon who is the Principal of St Mary’s, Corowa and in a previous life worked in Sandhurst Diocese looking after there Cyber Safety will be presenting a talk at St Anne’s, North Albury tonight from 6.30 – 7.30pm.

Glenn has previously spoken to the Wagga Principal’s Association and it was an eye opener for us. This a combined initiative of Albury Deanery Catholic Schools and I would urge parents to make the effort to attend.

Beanies

School Beanies have arrived  and are $20 each.  They come in sizes Small or Large.  You can purchase these at the clothing pool or use the order form here.

School Stream

Thanks to all the parents who have downloaded and are using School Stream our online messaging service. If you haven’t done it yet, could I please request that you spend 2 minutes obtaining the app.

This is very cheap and efficient way for the school to communicate directly with the parents. See further in our newsletter for information on how to download the app.

Father’s Day Stall

Thanks to all the Mums who helped out with the Father Day stall last week. Also thanks to all the families who donated. I saw some very excited Kindergarten Students with gifts, which I am sure Dad loved.

Regards

Rob
