RE News

A very big thank you to Tony Brooks for all the work he did as Religious Education Coordinator in Term 3. I have heard wonderful accounts of the Confirmation preparation, Reflection Day and the Mass.

Term 4 brings new opportunities for us to grow as a faith community here at St Patrick’s.

Our Year 2 students will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time on Wednesday, 15th November. The First Reconciliation meeting for parents and children will be held in the church on Monday, 16th  October at 6.00pm. Our picnic with Fr Joel is always a highlight of preparation for Reconciliation. All Year 2 families are invited to this happy, lay-back gathering on Wednesday, 1st November. A separate note with more details will be coming home soon.

October is Mission Month. The focus of World Mission Month for 2017 is the Church’s outreach to the children of Uganda, providing health care to children subject to life threatening diseases.

More information about our learning, activities and fundraising efforts for Mission Month will be in next week’s RE News.

27th Sunday in Ordinary Time

In Matthew’s Gospel last week we heard the story of the wicked tenants.

“There was a land owner who rented his vineyard and went on a trip. At the harvest, he sent his servants to collect his share, but the tenants thrashed and killed them. Thinking they would respect his son, he sent the son to them. But the tenants said to each other, ‘This is the owner’s son; let us kill him and we will get his property’. Jesus asked, ‘When he comes, what will the land owner do to those tenants?’

Family Focus

In this parable the landowner is God and the servants are God’s prophets. God sends prophets but many people still don’t believe. And when God sends his own Son, Jesus, they kill him. In our lives, often we not only reject the message, we reject the prophet as well.

Family Prayer

Father in Heaven,

send us your Spirit

to help us live

your message of love.

Amen
