Principal’s Message

Dear Parents,

The Year 6 students and teachers are well into Time Tours for this year. As yet I am still to see a performance, but I have heard nothing but great reports, and the students are having a great time. Well done to you all.

Next Monday, we will be having the Year 6 Graduation Assembly at 9.30am in the Mercy Hall. All members of our School Community are very welcome to join us for this. The Graduation Mass will take place on Monday evening at 6.00pm. It is an expectation that all year 6 students attend both of these events and that they wear formal school uniform for both. We look forward to celebrating this very special time with our Year 6 students.

On Friday, all students will spend some time in their classes for 2017. Staff have worked very hard to place all students in appropriate class groups. Staffing for 2017 is as follows:

Kinder:  Melissa Heyme, Kirby Hilton/Sarah Grove

Year 1:   Marg Brooks, Jenny Kirby/Celia Rolls,   Cindy Whitfield/Kylie James

Year 2:   Marlo Wild,   Anne-Maree Rixon,   Fiona Davis/Bronwyn Craig

Year 6:  Brenda Seckold,  Mercedes Goss,  Luke Holman

Today, our new Kinders for 2017 had their last visit for the year. They visited the library to share some books, and then had some lunch together and a play on our Infants equipment. They are very excited to begin next year and we are looking forward to their arrival.

On Monday evening, many of our staff and parents attended a session with Martin Heppell from the Resilience Project. This Project is all about building resilience in our children. I am pleased to say that we have booked this Project to visit with our parents and students in 2017. We are combining with the other 2 Catholic Schools in Albury for the parent session and there will be a visit to individual schools in June. We will let you know more about this in 2017.

On Friday, 3rd February, there will be a Professional Development Day for our staff. The Diocese has booked Brendan Spillane to work with our staff on building leadership and pedagogy in schools. Students do not attend school on this day. All dates for next year are on the school calendar. Please check this regularly. There are only 2 other PD days in 2017 these are the first day of term 3 (Monday 17th July)  and term 4 Monday 9th October. OOSH is available for children on these days.

Reports for Semester 2 are going home with the children today. Please take some time to read through them and celebrate the successes with your children.

Congratulations to Lea Scammell who graduated from her Reading Recovery course on Monday. Well done Lea, we are proud of you.

Please note that the format of our Opening School Mass next year has changed. Please place this event in your diary which is being held on Tuesday 21st February.  We would love to see you all attend the Mass which starts at 11.45am and join us afterwards for a free BBQ lunch. Read further in the newsletter for details.

Thank you again to Bronwyn Craig and the Year 2PC students who continued to entertain the folks at the Retirement villages and Nursing homes last week and this week.  We have received wonderful feed back from the nursing homes on the delightful entertainment and also the wonderful behaviour of the children. A great job. Congratulations.

Our last day for 2016 is Friday 16th December. The End of Year Mass will be at 9.30am in St. Patrick’s Church. Children may go home after this with permission. The first day for children in 2017 is Tuesday 31st January.

Have a great week. Take care and God bless.

Marie
