Acting Principal’s Message

Dear Parents,

As announced in last week’s newsletter, Marie is enjoying some well-earned long service leave until the end of term, as too is Roy Thompson. In their absence we welcome Kylie Fairall to 4BM and Tom Boyer to 3T. Please do not hesitate to contact me if necessary.

We are looking forward to Year 2 hosting our Book Week Assembly this Friday at 9.30am in Mercy Hall. Year 2 are the stars of this show but we are all invited to attend dressed as a favourite book character – I wonder who we will see there? Parents and friends are invited to stay for a cuppa and morning tea after the performance and this will be provided by Year 1.

As part of their preparation for the upcoming Sacrament of Confirmation our Year 6 children attended Parish Masses last weekend as part of their commitment to preparing for this special event. Parishioners have taken home prayer cards to keep them in their thoughts and we ask that our school community supports them too through our prayers. Another way the children in Years 3, 4 & 5 can show support is by volunteering to sing with the School Choir at this Mass. Notes went home regarding this last week and we will start regular practices this week so we will soon be singing like birds.

Next week our annual Book Fair opens. You can see the information letter and timetable in our school notes section.  This way you will know when your child/ren are visiting to preview the books and when they return to make their purchases. We do not host the Book Fair as a fund raiser – rather, an opportunity for children to purchase quality books if you so wish.

Doesn’t our new website look great? It is a convenient way to stay informed? Thanks to Di Matsinos for all of her work behind the scenes to keep everything current on the website and Facebook.  Remember to ‘like’ & “share” what you see to in order to get our school out there.

Our Father’s Day Stall will now be held on Thursday, 3rd September from 9.30am. Children are able to purchase items for their special gentlemen. Gifts range from $3 – $5.

Kinders Special Gentlemen’s Day is Friday, 4th September. Details of this can be found on our event calendar at the bottom of the website.

This Friday sees the completion of PSSA and School Based activities for this term. Thank you to the many parents who have supported the teachers in different capacities to enable the children’s involvement in the various sports. As of next week we will revert to our normal lunchtime break time of 1.05 – 1.45pm.

God Bless

Margie

Professional Learning:

Yesterday our Early Stage 1 teachers visited St Joseph’s in Wagga to learn from what their colleagues are doing in their classrooms to improve learning outcomes for students and to immerse themselves in how they structure their learning environments. We look forward to their feedback.

On Monday at our staff meeting ,  staff worked with Anne Ryan and Sr Anne Hagan who are our CSO School Service Officers. This was the first of two workshops where we are learning how to better analyse and interpret data from standardised testing so as to make informed decisions about what is going on for our learners and what we need to focus on in a targeted systematic  approach in the future.
