We invite all families to join our School Community to celebrate the Ascension of our Lord at the vigil Mass on Saturday evening at 5.00pm in St. Patrick’s Church.

Our Lady Help of Christians

Last Friday, 24th May was the Feast of Our Lady Help of Christians, the Patron Saint of Australia.

A group of Year 6 students joined a group of parishioners in the church on Friday afternoon to pray the Rosary to honour Mary on this special feast day.

We look to Mary for her help, her protection and guidance. We celebrate the many gifts God gives us here in Australia – the diversity of our people, the beauty of this land, the values of freedom and peace that we treasure.

We ask Mary to intercede for us.With the help of Mary, we pray that we may embrace and respect all Australians. May we work towards reconciliation with our Indigenous brothers and sisters, and learn to live in harmony with all those who are different from ourselves.

With the help of Mary, we pray for those who seek hope in Australia, especially migrants and refugees. May we be a sign of true Christian hospitality and generosity to them. With the help of Mary, we pray that Australians might be an example to the world in our concern for global peace, human rights and justice for all.

The Feast of the Ascension of the Lord

This coming weekend we celebrated the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord.

A Reflection on the Ascension of the Lord

Jesus appeared to the eleven and said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole of creation’. … Then, the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven, and sat down at God’s side. They went forth and preached everywhere, while the Spirit of God worked with them and confirmed the message by the signs that attended it. (Mark 16: 15, 19 – 20)

How well are you fulfilling Jesus’ command to share the good news with others?

What good news can you be with your life to your friends?

What good news about Jesus could you share with someone?

Family Prayer

Lord Jesus, give us the courage

to go out into the world

and share your love

with everyone we meet.

Amen

National Reconciliation Week

At the heart of reconciliation is the relationship between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. To foster positive race relations, our relationship must be grounded in a foundation of truth.

National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

Prayers for Reconciliation

God of love and justice, we pray that our political, religious and community leaders act in the interests of all the people in this land… that they walk the talk of reconciliation.

God of love and justice, we pray for those who still suffer sadness because of the government policies of the past … may they be healed by us walking the talk of your Gospel command to love.

God of love and justice, we pray for those who are ostracized because they walk the talk of reconciliation. May our nation encourage and celebrate their work.

God of Love and justice, help us to learn the message of justice taught by Pope Francis who has instructed us to go out. Go out and share… go out and interact with our brothers and sisters, go out and share, go out and ask. Become your Word in body as well as spirit.

Amen
