Co-Principal’s Message

Dear Parents,

This week we are celebrating Catholic Schools Week. This is an opportunity to celebrate with pride, all that we value about Catholic education. Our school is part of a community of Catholic Schools which enrols about 20 percent of all students across Australia. Catholic schools start from a foundation of faith, developing the spiritual life of our students as well as sustaining high expectations of achievement and conduct.

Today we celebrate Ash Wednesday. This day marks the beginning of our Lenten Season as we prepare to celebrate Easter and recall the events that led to the death and resurrection of Christ. Lent is a time for reflection and renewal in our lives as we prepare for Easter. The ashes we receive remind us to turn away from wrongdoings and to make God an important part of our lives.

We are holding our Open Day tomorrow, Thursday 7th, between 1.30pm and 6pm. During this time, please feel free to make a visit to your child’s classroom and see their learning in action. It would also be appreciated if you advertised this event to family and friends who are looking to enrol in 2020.

Thank you to everyone involved who helped make our 15th Annual golf day held last Sunday so successful. There were lots of keen golfers and thank you to all the businesses who were able to support the day. Please see these over the next few days via our facebook page.

There has already been several new learning opportunities for our staff. Last week Rob, Liz, Margie Moore and Jo Good  attended a two day Professional Development workshop titled, The Learning Collaborative. This is a 2-3 year planning, development and research partnership between all schools in our Diocese, Catholic Education Diocese of Wagga Wagga (CEDWW) and Dr. Lyn Sharratt. It is anticipated that through the partnership, we will use  data and Sharratt’s research and assessment tools to become more highly skilled in evidence based strategies in order to improve student learning. We are currently sharing the knowledge gained with all staff, beginning with an analysis of current student data. On Thursday and Friday Adrienne Musarra and Margie Moore will attend a two day workshop where they will be trained in extending Mathematics Understanding (EMU) intervention. This is part of the Diocesan Targeting Maths Initiative. Once trained, they will work with a small group of Year 1 students.

To assist with safe arrivals to school, the Staff Carpark gates will be closed from 8.30am, commencing this coming Monday. All students need to be entering the school grounds via the Kiewa St entrance. Please also be mindful of the traffic at these busy times and use the traffic lights to cross the road. DO NOT CROSS OUT OF THE FRONT GATES OF THE SCHOOL.

Please be reminded that our School Council AGM is this evening at 6pm in our Staffroom.
