Co-Principal’s Message

Dear Parents,

Our Kindergarten students are beginning to settle into the new routines of school. It has been lovely to welcome many new families to our school community as well as welcome the familiar faces.

Thank you to those of you who made yourselves available for the Parent Teacher Meet and Greet interviews last week. This was a forum for you to share information about your child which in turn assists our teachers in providing learning experiences to cater for individual’s needs.

Our 15th Annual Golf Day is being held on Sunday 3rd March at the Commercial Club Golf Club. A Fun Day for Parents and Friends (must be 18 Years and over). Cost $40.00 per person includes lunch and more…  Lunch:    11.30am        Shotgun Start:   12.30pm  Lots of great prizes and we can put you in a team or get a group together. The more the merrier. Click here for all information.

This year has seen the Diocese introduce a new form of attendance roll marking to comply with requirements under the Education Act. Under new requirements a roll call will take place three times during the day. If your child is late to school they will initially be marked absent and are required to come via the office to be signed in with a parent or guardian. If your child is dropped off and not signed in by a parent/guardian this will automatically be late arrival and unjustified on the roll.  This data will then be entered into their attendance record. Please note, we have taken into consideration those students who arrive on late buses and this does not apply to them. If during the day you are picking up your child for any reason, we ask that you come to the Office and sign them out and likewise, this information will be entered into their attendance record. On this topic of attendance we have noticed that there are a large number of students who are regularly arriving well after the 8.50am bell (we are not referring to the bus travellers). Please be reminded that it is an expectation that students are at school by 8.50am. Before school is also a great opportunity for students to socialise with their peers, run off energy and successfully transition into a new school day.

We would also like to remind Parents and Guardians that the Staff Car Park is Out of Bounds at Drop Off & Pick Up times. It is for staff only and access to the school is via Kiewa Street during these times. There is a Free Multi-storey  car park across the road from the school that has access via traffic lights at both intersections. The Kiss & Drop Zone is also an area that needs to keep flowing during this time so please be mindful of others and stay in your car. There is a teacher on duty at the pick up gate until 3.25pm. Please view the Albury City Council Safety Notice here.

Week 6 sees us celebrate Catholic Schools Week in NSW. As part of our celebrations we are showcasing our school with our 2019 Open Day. This will take place on Thursday, 7th March from 1.30-6pm. There will be guided tours provided by our Year 6 students. Classes will be occurring as per usual and after 3pm, there will still be an opportunity to walk through, observe and ask any questions. You are most welcome to join us on this day. It would also be appreciated if you advertised this event to family and friends who are looking to enrol in 2020. On the topic of enrolment, we would appreciate any existing families who have a sibling Kinder enrolment for 2020 to let the front office know as soon as possible. The official enrolment period hasn’t opened as yet, but with this information we can gauge the available places we will have for Kindergarten 2020.

Over the past few days we have celebrated two beautiful Masses. Thank you to those of you who participated in our Parish/School Mass on Saturday evening. This was a great opportunity for us to link together, and celebrate as a Parish and School. Yesterday we welcomed in the new school year with our Opening School Mass. This too was a vibrant celebration and we are grateful to those of you who could celebrate with us. Congratulations to those students who were recognised as our 2019 Student Council. We’re looking forward to working with these student leaders throughout the year.

School Fees will be going home this week. Please check your child’s bag for these and if you have any queries contact the office.

Regards, Liz and Rob.
